Okay first off you need to get some supplies. Here are what I use.
YOu can get these from Joanns' or online.
Then you draw out in pencil a stamp you'd like to carve OR you can print out a drawing or graphic you like online and just trace it with pencil.
Cut around the pencil drawing/tracing and turn it pencil side down on to the rubber block.
Rub down like you would a rub on to get a transfer.. Don't let it move too much or you won't get a good transfer. If there are parts that didn't transfer just draw directly on the block to connect areas and make a good drawing on it.
Here is what you end up with..
Then cut a block of the area off so its just the stamp squared off so you don't waste the whole block. You can cut through the block with big scissors.
Start carving. remember when you are carving there are different size tools. Do the outside of the drawing first. Then do the smaller detail after.. Remember you are doing one of two types of carvings. You can either carve off all white areas which will make a stamp like these or you can just carve the pencil marks out and that will make a recessed stamp with a solid background and just the stamp being uninked.
You have to decide before hand and remember while carving to either do pencil marks when carving or just do white areas while carving.
When you get close to the end or you think you are done ink the stamp and stamp it on a scrap paper. You will see what still shows that shouldn't and fix up the areas that still need carving. Do this sooner than later. You won't ruin it to try this toward the end. your pencil marks will be gone so make sure its almost done.
